I’ve been compiling and learning medicine songs in a public word doc in Google Drive. Its has more than a 100 songs, and editing , in particular in an ipad has been cumbersome. Keeping it formated and in alphabetical order, with numbers etc. is not easy. I decide to move the song book to wordpress. Here is my strategy and lessons learned to nicely publish lyrics, which can also be applied for poems or scripts.
- Keep a song per post. Like this one.
- Use the preformatted block. Because you want your line breaks to be preserved as one space. In normal blocks, every time you create a new line it converts to a paragraph. You want all your lyrics to be in one paragraph.
- Mark the changes of chords with bold and place the chords guide on he right. It is easier for people singing.
- If there is an audio or video associated, you can link to it at the end of the song. You can embed the lyrics in the podcats episode and the other way around. This is preferred since you can have various interpretations of the song.
- Create a blog category to cstegorize it as lyrics.
- Create a view woth all your lyrics, by filtering with category type.
- Also add a search button, for people to easily share.
If there is no internet, can be a problem, when people are trying to access the lyrics. Here I will post more when I find a good solution for this.
